Roslavl Railway-Car Repair Plant Will Turn Out Additional Rail Cars for Forest Industry Worth Over 1 Billion Rubles

Roslavl Railway-Car Repair Plant will produce additional rail cars for the forest industry amounting to more than 1 bln. rubles under the auspices of Alexey Ostrovsky, Governor of the Smolensk Region, and Alexey Morozov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

“Thanks to the joint efforts made by the Regional Administration and personally by Alexey Ostrovsky, Governor of the Smolensk Region, as well as by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the plant managed to secure and execute an order for producing innovative platform rail cars (gondolas) worth a total of more than 1 billion rubles,” commented Rostislav Rovbel, Deputy Governor of the Smolensk Region.

In recent years Roslavl Railway Car Repair Plant has radically changed the production plan to become a 100% rail car manufacturing facility. In 2016 the car builders in Roslavl developed and certified an innovative platform to transport wood products, which allows carrying 6 tons more cargo in each car and thus helps significantly improve the rail transportation. With the assistance of Alexey Ostrovsky, Governor of the Smolensk Region, the plant obtained a permit by the Rolling Stock Commission belonging to the Council for the Railway Transport of the Commonwealth Member States (CIS) to introduce the manufactured gondolas in the Reference book for the information and computer center of the railway administrations, otherwise the car might not be used on public railways owned by Russian Railways.

Overall, the enterprise could start the serial production of modern gondolas and secure a manufacturing order for 250 cars of this type.
